Mobile Home Insurance

Mobile home insurance, also known as manufactured home insurance, may cover damage to your home, personal belongings, and liability claims if you are found responsible for a visitors injuries. The only difference between the two types of homes is the date they were built. According to HUD, a factory built home made before June 15, 1976 is a mobile home and one built after June 15, 1976 is a manufactured home.

Mobile homes are built in a factory and placed on a trailer chassis to allow them to be moved. They are sometimes placed on leased land or in a mobile home park. In these cases, the owner of the home rents a space or leases land, but owns the home itself.

It is much like a standard homeowners insurance policy in the sense that it provides financial protection in the event that your home is damaged. Mobile home insurance is considered a specialty insurance product. Due to their unique construction and vulnerability to certain weather, mobile homes / manufactured homes typically don’t qualify for traditional homeowners insurance. Instead, you need to look into mobile home insurance.

Manufactured home insurance typically costs more due to several reasons, including its risk for wind and fire damage. Also, this type of home can be more expensive to insure because of increased risk due to theft claims and pipe damage.
